The newest cataract surgery advancement, Dropless Cataract Surgery™, is now available at Eye Clinic of Austin. Dropless Cataract Surgery is a new treatment option that reduces or eliminates the need for patients to administer pricey prescription eye drops 3-4 weeks after the surgery.

Until the launch of Dropless, patients were required to adhere to a strict eye drop schedule often consisting of several different types of drops that can cost hundreds of dollars. These eye drops are critical to successful procedure outcomes by reducing inflammation and the risk of infection after cataract surgery.

With Dropless Cataract Surgery, these eye drops are no longer required because the eye surgeon deposits a compounded formulation of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication in the back of the eye during the surgery itself. The time-released delivery of the drugs helps fight infection and inflammation during a patient’s recovery period. Because the medication is administered at the time of surgery, any concerns about patient compliance are eliminated. In addition, patients no longer have the financial burden of purchasing these often expensive post-op eye drops.

“I consider this a major advancement in care for the cataract patient. It improved results, has less hassle and costs less. It’s what I chose for my wife,” said Eye Clinic of Austin Ophthalmologist Thomas Henderson, M.D.
