Almost 25,000 Americans make a visit to the emergency room each year because of a workplace eye injury. Eye Clinic of Austin would like to take this month to remind everyone on how important it is to use approved and certified protective eyewear.
Eyewear isn’t the only important reminder this month though. Many think of blue collar jobs as it relates to workplace eye injuries, but the rise in digital eye strain and issues related to screen use have skyrocketed in recent years.
The Vision Council has found that almost 65 percent of American adults experience some form of digital eye strain. There are steps you can take to reduce digital eye strain. The Vision Council recommends the 20-20-20 break: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away.
If you are experiencing any kind of eye pain or sever eye strain, make an appointment with your eye doctor. He or she can review your eye health and history to ensure there aren’t any other underlying issues causing these symptoms.
