What is a Glaucoma Specialist?
A glaucoma specialist is an ophthalmologist that specializes in the management of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition that can lead to the loss of vision because the pressure in the eye can be too high. A glaucoma specialist works with patients to lower their eye pressure and decrease their risk of vision loss by using medications, lasers, and surgery if needed. A glaucoma specialist has completed at least one year of additional fellowship training in glaucoma following a three year medical residency in ophthalmology after finishing medical school.
